Day 2

As well as great nightlife and food, Bangkok is home to a plethora of Buddist temples, which you can get a glimpse of from the Chao Phraya River that runs through the city or by foot.

Note: there is a strict dress code in these temples; arms and legs must be completely covered.

Top 3 temples to visit:

Wat Pho (entrance fee ~£2.50)

Also known as the temple of the reclining Buddha (pictured in the gallery above).

Wat Phra Kaew (entrance fee ~£11.50)

Home to the emerald Buddha statue.

Wat Arun (entrance fee ~£1.50)

Also known as the temple of the dawn, Wat Arun is probably Bangkok's most famous temple, often captured in pictures of the city from the river.

Day 3

On Day 3, head away from the busyness of Bangkok and towards relaxation in Ko Lanta. Return flights from Bangkok to Krabi are around £30.

From Krabi Airport take a taxi (~350 baht) to Krabi Pier or Ao Nang Pier as the only way to the Lanta Islands is by passenger ferry or private boat.

Baan Pakgasri Hideaway

For super basic and chilled beachside accommodation for your stay in Ko Lanta, try Baan PH luxury beach huts.

After a relatively long day of travelling, relax into your accommodation and enjoy a Thai sunset over the Andaman Sea.

Day 4

The best way to get around Ko Lanta is by scooter. You'll find plenty of scooter rental places along Horizon Road (if staying at Baan Pakgasri Hideaway) and in abundance all over the island. You'll also be able to rent motorbikes, small cars, and other small motor vehicles which won't cost you more than ~£5 per day.

Time to explore the beaches of the island! The island is lined with beaches so its best to just drive and see which ones catch your eye but here are some to get you started.

Day 5

After a day of relaxation, get your muscles going by heading down to the island's national park located on the southerly most point.

Mu Ko Lanta National Park (entrance fee ~200 baht + 30 baht for a vehicle)

A protected area with a cave system, waterfalls, beaches, and jungle trails.

Day 6

Being on the western coast of Thailand places you in good proximity to the tropical islands of the Andaman Sea including the famous Phi Phi Islands, Maya Bay, and Bamboo Island.

Use tour operators like Viator to book tours in your home currency online or head down to the local pier either in Koh Lanta (Saladan Pier) or in the busier Krabi area (Rassada Pier) to negotiate a bespoke spontaneous tour.

Andaman Sea Island Hopping

Day 7

Free day.

Try another one of the Viator tours or simply have a chill out day in Koh Lanta.

Visit Lanta Old Town on the eastern side of the island for dinner. The Old Town offers lots of great waterfront restaurants, bars, and souvenir shops. The heavy Chinese influence in the town is shown by chinatown-style decorations - red and gold lanterns - and Chinese architecture.

Lanta Old Town

Beautiful Restaurant

Sawasdee

Bigtree Beergarden

Day 8

If you didn't get a chance to visit Lanta Old Town on Day 7, head over for breakfast/ lunch on Day 8.

Otherwise, pack your bags for a couple of nights stay in Railay Beach. Catch a 1 hour ferry from the Saladan Pier in Koh Lanta. The ferry usually terminates at a larger pier nearby where you can take a traditional Thai longtail boat directly into Railay Beach.

Spend days 9 & 10 relaxing in Railay Beach before catching a flight home via Bangkok.
