A WEEKEND IN THE ARCTIC

Day 1

Catch a direct flight from London to Tromsø on a Thursday, and head to your hotel. There's a reliable and frequent airport express bus which takes you to Tromsø in 15 mins.

Hotel options in Tromsø:

🏨 Hotel Clarion - The Edge

🏨 Moxy Tromsø

🏨 Scandic Grand

Airbnb/ apartment options in Tromsø:

🏠 Aera Glass Cabins

🏠 Airbnb

🏠 Aurora Fjord Cabins

Depending on what time you arrive, you might have some time to wander around the small town and explore.

But since you've come to the Arctic Circle, we'd recommend heading out on a northern lights tour tonight to maximise your opportunity to see the aurora.

🌌 Northern Lights Tour

Small, intimate group tour in a 4x4 meaning you can access more remote/ off road areas. The tour starts around 6pm and goes on as long as the group/ guides wish. You'll be picked up and dropped off at your downtown hotel. Friendly, knowledgable guides who take phenomenal photos (see pictures 2 and 3 in the slide show).

Places to grab dinner:

🍴 Burgr

🍴 Egon

🍴 Emmas Drømmekjøkken

Day 2

Hopefully you were lucky enough to see the northern lights last night! If not, there's still ample opportunity so don't worry.

Start your first full day in Tromsø with some coffee and breakfast:

Kaffebonna

Risø

Fint

Smørtorget

You'll want to separate your activities in Tromsø by those that can be done at night and those best done in the day. This is because those that can be done at night are often paired with northern lights viewing opportunities.

Some attractions to try are:

🌟 Polaria - Polar Museum

🌟 Husky Sledding (£209)

You can't come to the Arctic and not try husky sledding. Small group or private tours ensure the experience is more intimate and prioritises animal wellbeing over profits.

After a busy day, try some of Tromsø's best bars.

Day 3

You'll want to take advantage of the majestic Arctic scenery whilst in Tromsø which you can find in the surrounding wilderness.

- Hike to Prestvannet Lake

Head away from the centre of Tromsø, slightly uphill towards the residential areas. Marvel at the Norwegian architecture, both modern and traditional, before reaching the forested trail that encircles Lake Prestvannet.

For added adventure, rent cross-country skis or snow shoes from a shop downtown before heading up to the lake, and venture across the frozen lake (winter months only).

- The Cable Car

Take the cable car up Storsteinen Mountain for great views of Tromsø. Visit in the evening for increased chances of spotting the northern lights.

A good option for dinner after a busy day:

Day 4

Relax on Sunday with brunch and the beach before catching your flight home.

- Koselig Cafe

- Telegrafbukta Beach

A 35 minute walk out of Tromsø and back by parks with trails. A great place to take a picnic and watch the sun over the water.
